gas technology

Liandon manages and maintains gas installations and networks and is currently exploring alternatives to natural gas as well as ways to use available gases more efficiently. This is because the pressure to innovate is mounting as gas stocks become further depleted and the need to reduce CO2 emissions is growing.

Innovating existing networks

The existing transmission and distribution networks must continue to meet two essential basic conditions: safety and reliability. Liandon is working on ways to make grid management, maintenance and replacement more intelligent and easier. Among other things, we have worked on alternatives to replace grey cast iron, extend the useful life of old materials and reduce the risk of explosion in and around the gas stations. You can read more about the following innovations:

Smart grids for gas

The gas world is in transition. The number of suppliers of green gas is steadily growing. The need for heating is decreasing because homes are increasingly well-insulated. And of course where residual heating is available, it is clearly preferred over natural gas. These examples underline the importance of smart grids. A smart grid is a new energy infrastructure that is able to accommodate these changes.

In order to achieve a shift towards smart grids, we need a lot more information from the gas network than was formerly the case. We require an intelligent gas network that provides extensive control data. Faced with this challenge, Liandon is working on new concepts based on cheaper sensors in intercommunicating measurement and control stations. One example is:

Biogas and hydrogen in the gas chain

In various sectors - ranging from agriculture and livestock farming to sewage treatment - biogas is harvested from residual materials. This biogas can be used to produce electricity and heating, or as green gas that is fed directly into the network.

Liandon is carrying out scenario analyses and developing the necessary technology to enable the delivery of biogas and green gas. This safeguards the operational reliability of the existing infrastructure.

In the future, it may be possible to use hydrogen  to supply CO2-free gas. Liandon is aware of the advantages and disadvantages of this application and can advise you in this area.
